Obituary of Max R. McComb

Max R. McComb of Florida, NY, formerly of Maybrook, NY entered into rest on Thursday, February 23, 2017. He was 78. The son of the late Emmett James and Nada Jarrett McComb, he was born Oct. 9, 1938 in Pocahontas, AR. Max was a 59-year member and life member of the Maybrook Fire Department. He was Past Chief from 1964-1965, served as President in 1961, Chairman of the 50th anniversary committee in 1964 and was the first Division Marshall for the 100th anniversary parade in 2014. Max was an avid food enthusiast who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning. He was a former supermarket executive who worked for Big V Shop Rite Supermarkets as Sr. VP of Store Operations in Florida, NY, Shaws Supermarkets as Regional VP in Portland, ME, and Sutton Place Gourmet as President and COO in Rockville, MD. Survivors include his wife Mary Jean at home; his children M. Michael and his wife Mary Jo of Smyrna, GA; Peter and his wife Renee' of Pine Bush, NY; Richard and his wife Bernadette of Orlando, FL; and step-son Michael Rejmaniak of Fairfax, VA; his grandchildren Mackenzie, Tyler, Joey, Jenna, Kyle and Nathan; sister Nancy Higgins and her husband James of Florence, KY; brother Larry McComb and his wife Lois of Courtland, VA; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida, NY 10921. Funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday and firematic services will be held at 7:30 pm on Sunday, both at the funeral home. Cremation will be held privately.
