Obituary of John J. Stopa

John J. Stopa of Florida, NY entered into rest peacefully on Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 82. The son of the late John Stopa and Katherine Siembab Stopa, he was born March 3, 1935 in Florida, NY. John was the patriarch of his family and will be greatly missed. He was a retired self - employed mechanic who ran John Stopa Repair Shop and was also retired from Gor-Dun's after 38 years where he got to know a majority of the local farmers. John was an avid private pilot who spent many hours at Warwick Airport and flying over the Hudson Valley. He was a member of the Florida Fire Department. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Jean Rejmaniak Stopa; sons Gary Stopa and wife Loretta, Gregg Stopa & wife Stephanie; grandchildren Matthew Stopa, Jordan Stopa, Kendall Stopa, Gianna Lindros & husband Ryan, Andrea Stopa; great grandson Rowan Lindros. He was predeceased by his son Mark Stopa, his brother Stanley Stopa and his sister Josephine Scheuermann. Visitation will be held on Friday July 21, 2017 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home 22 Glenmere Ave. Florida, NY 10921. Funeral mass will be held 10 AM on Saturday July 22, 2017 at St. Joseph's Church 14 Glenmere Ave., Florida, NY 10921. Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Florida, NY.
