Robert "Zovie" Zovistoski entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the age of 73. Zovie, the son of the late Jeannette Wood and Anthony Zovistoski, was born January 29, 1944 in the Town of Warwick. He was a lifetime resident of Florida, NY. As a youth, he worked in his family's onion fields and on Bill Howell's dairy farm. He was a 1962 graduate of S.S. Seward Institute where he was active in soccer. In 1962 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the 2nd and 94th Artillery as a Service Battery Ammunition Sergeant, during the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star for valor. Zovie has consistently been involved in community service. He was a 49 year member of the Florida Fire Department; Past Captain of the Department and Past Captain of the Fire Police. He was a member of the Orange County Fire Police Association. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 1250, Florida, NY and a member and Past Commander of the PLAV Post # 16, Pine Island, NY. He was a member of the VFW Post 4662, Warwick, NY. Robert also served 20+ years with the Florida Little League and was President of the league for 13 ½ years. He assisted in the building of the Little League Field on Round Hill Road and was instrumental in starting the T-Ball program in the village. He was a past president of the Florida Lions Club and he assisted in the formation of the Florida Food Pantry. Zovie was always assisting in the fundraising efforts of various community organizations including the Fire Company, American Legion, PLAV, Presbyterian Church and others, by using his cooking expertise whether it was preparing BBQ chicken, roast beef or corned beef dinners. Zovie is survived by his wife, Charlotte; children, Charles Zovistoski; Allyson Frank & husband Michael; Michael Dolan & wife Shana; Christine Dolan Flowers & husband Dave; Robert Zovistoski-Rake & wife Josephine and Kimberly A. Zovistoski; grandchildren, Jade Giza, Jacob & Kelci Flowers, Madison Frank, Nicholas Carminati & Morgan Zovistoski-Rake; sister, Rosemary Cole & husband Richard; brother, Anthony Zovistoski & wife Christine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Ruth DeMouth & Joanne Farnsworth Jackson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 10th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY. Legion services will be held 7:15PM followed by firematic services 7:30PM at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be held 10AM Monday, September 11th at St. Joseph Church, Florida, NY. As per his wishes, cremation will be held privately after the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PLAV Post 16 Scholarship Fund, PO Box 16, Pine Island, NY 10969, American Legion Post 1250 Scholarship Fund, PO Box 644, Florida, NY 10921 or to the Florida Food Pantry, PO Box 94, Florida, NY 10921.
