Ann W. Curry of Chester, NY, entered into rest on Friday, May 16, 2025 at home.  She was 83.

Ann was the daughter of the late Stuart Welch and Elizabeth Hampshire Welch and was born on October 13, 1941 in Albion, NY.

She is survived by husband, John Curry; daughter, Colleen Curry; son, Christopher Curry and wife Susanne; 5 grandchildren: Sean Curry, Shannon Curry and fiance Steven Wist, Matthew Kenny, Patrick Kenny and Christopher Kenny; brother, Charles J. Welch; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Russell Welch and sister, Virginia Welch Beuckman.

Ann attended Kendall High School, where she won many spelling bees, including the Northwestern School District Spelling Bee. She was editor of the school's 1959 yearbook, and won a citation from the Daughters of the American Revolution for her literary skills. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class.

Ann attended Brockport State and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught junior high school at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District, where she met John, the love of her life. They were married March 28, 1964 and just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She later spent the remainder of her teaching career at Golden Hill Elementary School in Florida, NY, retiring in 1997.

Her many interests included reading, camping and cross-country skiing. She enjoyed teaching about the American Civil War and piqued the interest of many students to learn more about the conflict and visit Gettysburg National Military Park. Ann also enjoyed visiting national parks and historic sites and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19th from 4-7PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY 10921.

A funeral service will be held 11AM on Tuesday, May 20th at St. James’s Episcopal Church, 1 St. James Place, Goshen, NY 10924.

Burial of cremains will be in the Florida Cemetery, Florida, NY in a private ceremony later in the week.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties (800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550), or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, NY 10163).
