Obituary of Eileen Mary Kata
Eileen Mary Shanley Kata, 80 of Florida, NY, passed peacefully June 3, 2018 at home. Born to Francis X. Shanley & Eleanor Sieczek Shanley on August 2, 1937 at home in Florida, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Joseph L. Kata Sr. in 2016.
Eileen spent her childhood working the black dirt fields with her parents and eventually was persuaded by her Uncle, Reverend Monsignor Joseph Sieczek to pursue a RN degree in nursing, graduating from Benedictine Hospital School of Nursing, Kingston, NY on September 7, 1958. A career spanning 41 years at Goshen Hospital and Arden Hill. A loving mother to three boys, mom was active as a Cub Scout Den Mother, enjoyed snowmobiling and vacationing on Long Beach Island in the 70’s. Throughout her life it seemed there was no shortage of people to care for, friend or family. Later in life she took to quilting and was like a factory supplying warmth to her expanding family.
Survivors include her sons, Joseph Jr. and his wife Ann; James and his fiancé Debra Runnalls; Douglas and his wife Laurie; grandchildren, Heather, Michael, Ryan, Jessica, Joseph III, Andrew and Bryan Kata; one great grandchild, Sonny and one on the way; brother Francis Shanley & wife Margaret; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6th from 4-8PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY 10921.
A funeral mass will be held 10AM Thursday, June 7th at St. Joseph Church, 20 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY 10921.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Florida, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
