Obituary of Raymond E. Arkel
Raymond E. “Ray” Arkel, a longtime resident of Warwick, died on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at home. He was 82.
Raymond was born in Chester, NY on October 5, 1936. He is the son of Jennie Arkel Buchko and George Arkel Sr. Raymond retired from Jones Chemicals Inc. of Warwick, NY after 36 years. He then worked for The Warwick Country Club for 15 years.
Raymond was a United States Navy Veteran. He was also a member of the Raymond Hose Company, Warwick.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Helen Arkel; son David A. Arkel and wife Peggy of Greenville; sister, Margaret of Lake Orion Michigan; brother in law, Stanley Toffel and wife Clair of Westtown; sisters-in-law, Dolores Arkel and Alice Andryshak and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Anne E. Toffel Arkel of 37 years, infant son, Gary Arkel, parents Jennie Schultz Arkel Buchko & George Arkel Sr. and John Buchko; sisters Dorothy “Dot” Arkel and Patricia DiPaolo; brothers, Daniel R. & George J. Arkel; stepbrother, Johnny Buchko; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Andryshak, Arnie Conklin, Robert Schultz, Walter Toffel and nephew George D. Arkel.
Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid snowmobiler since 1973. He loved the serenity of the Adirondack Mountains where he rode for 35 years.
Friends may call from 4-8PM on Tuesday, November 27th at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route# 1, Pine Island, NY 10969.
A funeral mass will be held 10AM Wednesday, November 28th at St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island, NY.
Burial will be held in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Pine Island.
