Luke Hermos was a resident of Monroe, New York and parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, passed away in his sleep. He was 98 years old. He was the son of the late Matwey (Matthew) and Catherine Hermos who emigrated to the U.S. from what was then Russia in 1912 and 1913. Luke was predeceased by his two sisters Olga and Anne and he is survived by his younger brother, Alex and his wife Renate, their children Helga, Tanya and Matthew. He has many nieces and nephews who loved him. Luke served in the Army as Field Sergeant in the Field Artillery Group from February 26, 1941-November 30, 1945. He was deployed to France and later to Germany and was Honorably Discharged. Luke was scheduled to participate with Honor Flight in September 2014 but was unable to go secondary to health reasons. The May 2015 honor flight was named in his honor for his service to his country. After discharge from the Army he obtained his Electrical Engineering Degree from Adelphi University and he went to work for NYC Water Department and worked on the water supply tunnels until he retired. Luke was an avid fisherman, loved tennis, he had a hobby of making models, he loved singing and was always serenading people and he was very involved with the Catholic Church. Luke was a member of Sacred Heart Church and volunteered as an usher and was also Treasurer and active member of the Blue Army Prayer Cell. We would like to thank the entire staff at Valley View Nursing Home for the excellent care that Luke received from the nursing staff, doctors, aides and therapists all the way to the billing department.
