Obituary of John P. Shanley

John P. Shanley of Milford, PA, formerly of Florida, NY, entered into rest on Monday, May 01, 2023.  He was 78.

 

John worked for Alder’s Florist in Campbell Hall and then worked for UPS in Chester for 30 years.  He loved animals, fishing, golf and watching his grandchildren compete in athletic events.  John was an active member of the Florida Fire Department for over 25 years and was also a former Village Trustee for the Village of Florida.

 

The son of the late John P. Shanley and Anna Palmer Shanley, he was born on April 8, 1945 in Goshen, NY.

 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Kujawski Shanley; daughters, Kathleen Smith and husband Philip of Greenville, NY; Karen Tirelli and husband James of Slate Hill, NY; and Cynthia Gitlitz and husband Jonah of Greenville, SC; 6 grandchildren, Alexa, Sean, Tyler, Colin, Arielle and Sydney; brothers-in-law, Andrew Kujawski (Brenda) of Milford, PA and Ronald Kujawski (Pat) of West Stockbridge, MA; sister-in-law, Paula Kujawski of Florida, NY along with lifelong friend, Joe Mruczek of Florida, NY.  He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a brother William Shanley and a sister, Helen Shanley.

 

Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd from 4-8pm at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Avenue, Florida NY 10921.  Firematic services will be held 7:30PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

 

A memorial funeral mass will be held 12noon Thursday, May 4th at St. Joseph Church, 20 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY 10921.

 

The family would like to send a “special thank you” to the nursing staff at Bon Secours Hospital for the special care they gave to John.
