Obituary of Sophie Kwiatkowski

Please share a memory of Sophie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sophie Kwiatkowski of Pine Island, NY entered into rest on September 19, 2015 quietly at her home. She was 95. The daughter of the late Lawrence and Sophie Gwozdz Malek, she was born on October 8, 1919 and was the youngest in the family. Being born in a different age, one of kerosene lamps, wood or coal burning stoves and drawing well water she truly enjoyed all of the modern conveniences now taken for granted such as the telephone, running water, central heat, and electric lighting. When the house she was born in burned to the ground her family traveled, she as an infant, in a horse drawn sled in the dead of winter, to their new home in Pine Island. Sophie came to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior early in life and was a devout Catholic. She was active in the church playing on the youth basketball team and singing in the youth choir. She regularly participated in forty hours devotion vesper and went on trips with the solidarity. She married Andrew in January of 1946. Even with starting a family of her own, she still made the time to care for her aging parents. She worked for most of her life, first on her parent's farm then on their own onion farm, then the Minisink Rubber Mill and finally Orange County Home and Infirmary. In spite of how hard she worked come the holidays she always found the time to cook, bake and turn those meals into true feasts which still hold a near and dear place in all our hearts. She would be happy to know her baking tradition lives on in her granddaughter Andrea & great-granddaughter Madison. When she was finally able to retire she very much enjoyed going on trips with the Pine Island Senior Citizens Club until her vision started to fail. Faith undaunted, since she could no longer attend church she could be found every Sunday at noon watching EWTN in her favorite chair. Her family takes great solace in the fact that she is now in the Lords presence able to walk, see and sing again. Thanks mom for all you have done for us it is now your time to rest. She is survived by her son Andrew Kwiatkowski Jr. and wife Michelle of Guilderland, NY; daughter Rita Roussell and husband Keith of Clifton Park, NY; sons Daniel and Mark Kwiatkowski both of Pine Island, NY; grandchildren Andrea, Paul, Elizabeth, David, and Jonathan Rouselle, Dacia, Andrew III, and Krista Kwiatkowski; great-grandchildren Tyler, Madison, and Chloe Rouselle; and several nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Andrew Kwiatkowski and her daughter Alice Mary Kwiatkowski. Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Monday September 28, 2015 at T.S. Purta Funeral Home 690 Co. Rt. 1 Pine Island, NY. A funeral mass will be held 11 AM on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at St. Stanislaus Church Pine Island, NY. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
