Obituary of Bernice Fox

Bernice Fox of Middletown, NY, a retired Physical Education Teacher for Kings Elementary School in Warwick, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 09, 2024.  She was 80.

 

The daughter of the late Edward Henderson Sr. and Anna Schadt Henderson, she was born on June 5, 1943 in Warwick, NY.

 

Bernice graduated from Pembroke University in North Carolina with a BS degree in Health & Physical Education.  She taught 5 years at Magnolia High, an all, Lumbee Indian School.  She was named teacher of the year by her students in Lumberton, NC in 1970.

 

She was awarded life membership in the PTA by the Kings PTA for her love and dedication of her students.  She helped revise the Kings Carnival, provided intramurals before and after school, created Kings Sports Day, which continued until the school closed.  She devoted many hours each year to provide extra activities for her students.  She retired in 2003 after teaching Physical Education for 38 years.

 

Bernice was a active member of the former Amity Presbyterian Church.

 

She is survived by her sisters, Jannette Bott and Laura Bergman (Jeff); along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Paul Fox; brother, Edward Henderson Jr.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12th from 10AM-12Noon with a funeral service being held 12Noon at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route# 1, Pine Island, NY 10969.

 

Burial will be in Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, NY.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
