Obituary of John Zuk

John Zuk, a lifelong resident of Pine Island, passed peacefully at home on Monday, February 15, 2016. He was 93. Born December 13, 1922 to the late Alexander Zuk & Mary Wojtowicz Zuk, John was the last remaining of their five sons. John worked in the region his entire life and loved what he did. An avid hunter, fisherman and trapper he survived off the land. Most of his working life was spent with the Bierstine Farms until he retired approximately twenty-five years ago. Post retirement, he continued to spend most of his time farming a small family plot of black dirt along with his upland garden. He supplied some of the local produce stands in the region and many folks would visit his "self-serve" stand and pay on the honor system. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 Co. Rt#1, Pine Island, NY 10969. Funeral services will be held 10AM Saturday, February 20th at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Pine Island, NY.
