Joan Poloniak of Florida, NY, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. She was 81. The daughter of the late John & Christine Golembowski Kocot, she was born on April 23, 1934 in Warwick, NY. Joan was an active member of the Tri-Town ladies bowling league where she participated in many state and national events. She was very active in promoting her Polish Heritage, loved to dance and an avid Bingo player. She was a director of the Whoop-Dee-Doo & Florida Folk Dance Group for many years. She was the chairperson for the dancers in 1983 & 1989 Orange County Onion Harvest Festivals. Joan received the Seton Award from the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph School. She was a member of St. Joseph Church & choir, a member of the St. Joseph Living Rosary Society; American Legion Post 1250 Auxiliary and past member of the PLAV Post 16 Ladies Auxiliary; Hudson Valley Polonaise; Orange County Onion Festival Committee; Friends of the Florida Library; Pine Island Seniors, and the S.S. Seward Alumni. Joan worked for the O.C. Department of Social Services for 40 years and retired to spend more time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Vincent Poloniak; Son, Edward Sosler & his wife Vicki & her daughter, Naomi & her children, Jaden, Ian & Roslin; son, Vincent Sosler; daughter, Debra Carmody & her husband Edward; daughter, Paula Poloniak & fiancé Robert Kammarada & his daughter, Kerry; 4 grandchildren, Meloni Sosler, Christina Carmody, Nicholas & Matthew DeGennaro; great grandchild, Urijah. She was predeceased by her first husband Edward Sosler, and baby Francis Sosler. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 13th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY 10921. Rosary services will be held 3PM at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held 10AM on Monday, March 14th at St. Joseph Church, 20 Glenmere Ave, Florida, NY. As per her wishes, cremation will be held privately and burial will be held 1:30PM on Saturday, March 19th at St. Joseph Cemetery, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pokolenie Dancers, C/O Hudson Valley Polonaise Society, PO Box 162, Goshen, NY 10924 or to St. Joseph Church Restoration Fund, 14 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY 10921.
