Estella May Smith, age 86, of Saratoga Springs, New York, died on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Teresian House Nursing Center for the Elderly in Albany, New York. Estella was born on April 19, 1930, in Salisbury Center, New York. Her parents were Elmer R. Mattison (deceased) and Mary Davis (deceased). She is predeceased by her five siblings: Howard Mattison, Inez Emery, Floyd Mattison, Clifford Mattison and Herbert Mattison. She was married to Frank H. Smith of Warwick, New York on January 12, 1963, until his death on July 6, 1978. She was a resident of Warwick, NY until 1986, moving to Cape May Courthouse, NJ until 2002, when she moved to Saratoga Springs, NY. She attended Dolgeville Central School in Dolgeville, NY. She attended SUNY Orange (formerly Orange County Community College). Employment included the NYS Thruway Authority as a toll collector, Warwick Valley Central Schools as a bus driver and monitor, St. Stephen-St. Edward School (Warwick), St. John's School (Goshen) and St. Francis School (Newburgh) as a Physical Education Teacher. Her final employment before retiring was for Tolz Realtors in Cape May Courthouse, NJ. In 2004 she was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Warwick Little League for her integral efforts in establishing the Girls Softball Program. Estella was an avid bowler and participated in bowling leagues with friends while living in Warwick. She is survived by her three children, Robert G. Schloicka, Sr. and Joyce Schloicka (Florida, NY), Joseph W. Smith, Sr. and Melissa Smith (Westtown, NY), Mary D. (Smith) Caravella and Andrew Caravella (Saratoga Springs, NY) and daughter-in-law, Eve M. Smith (Warwick, NY). Grandchildren, Robert G. Schloicka, Jr. and Deirdre Schloicka (Kiamesha, NY), Joy Ellen Gorish and Lane Gorish (Pine Island, NY), Margaret M. Smith (Saratoga Springs, NY), Joseph W. Smith, Jr. (Westtown, NY), Capen Burbank(Warwick, NY), Frank H. Smith (Westtown, NY), Madison A. Caravella (Saratoga Springs, NY) and Ryan M. Caravella (Saratoga Springs, NY). Great-grandchildren, Kaelyn Schloicka (Bloomingburgh, NY), Madelyn Schloicka (Bloomingburgh, NY), Kara Schloicka (Kiamesha, NY), Reiley Schloicka (Kiamesha, NY), Lane Gorish, Jr. (Pine Island, NY) and Briar Gorish (Pine Island, NY) Calling hours are on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at T S Purta Funeral Home in Florida, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Stephen Church in Warwick, NY with interment following at Warwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either of the following in her name: Teresian House Center for the Elderly, 200 Washington Ave Ext, Albany, NY 12203, 518-456-2000 or Alzheimers Association-Northeast NY Chapter, 4 Pine West Plz, Albany, NY 12205, 518-867-4999. As we lose our mother, we lose a pure soul who will bless and guard us constantly. What she leaves behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of our family...
