Obituary of John H. Schick

John H. Schick Sr. of Westtown, NY, a retired self employed general contractor and carpenter entered into rest on Tuesday January 31, 2017.He was 85. John was affectionately known by his family and close friends as Pop. He developed his love of animals early in life while working on dairy and horse farms. His granddaughter stated "he fed all the birds in the whole wide world." He was always putting others first and often performed random acts of kindness to help anyone in need. John's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Dinsmore and his staff at Crystal Run Oncology as well as the Hospice West team, Suzanna, Deacon Tom & Alyssa. The son of the late Fred and Juanita Stickles Schick he was born on April 4, 1931 in Newton, NJ. He was a US Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife Sue Ann Schlagel Schick; son John H. Schick Jr.; stepdaughter Beth Terracino; grandchildren Ashley Schick Michalov, Brianna and Shaina Poppo, Aaron Hassell, Caitlyn and Chelsea Quackenbush; sister Juanita Walter & several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 9 siblings, and beloved granddaughter Chloe Quackenbush. Memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Saturday February 4, 2017 at T.S. Purta Funeral Home 690 Co. Rt. 1, Pine Island, NY 10969. Funeral service will be held at 4 pm at the funeral home. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12558
