Obituary of Sophie Mazur

Sophie Mazur a longtime resident of Pine Island, NY passed away peacefully on Friday December 24, 2010 at Valley View Center, with her family by her side. She was 89. The daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Wolosz Kozala she was born May 12, 1921 in Old Forge, PA. She was married to Anthony Mazur for 50 years, he predeceased her in 1992. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and St. Stanislaus Rosary Society Pine Island, NY. Sophie was a devoted mother, grandmother “babci”, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her six loving children Joseph Mazur and wife Dawn of Greenwood Lake, NY ; Barbara Mazur Haag and husband Dick of Fort Myers, Fl; Agatha Jarosz Stoker and husband Edward of Pine Island, NY; Linda Ochs and husband Brian of Slate Hill, NY; Diane Eurich and husband Richard of Warwick, NY; Anthony Mazur and wife Deborah of Milford, PA. Eight grandchildren Lori Tal, Shawn Mazur, Jessica Ochs, Jason Ochs, Kelly Bradley, Kyle Eurich, Ashley and Sarah Mazur. Six great-grandchildren Thomas and Jackie Tal, Amelia Ochs, Ronan, Johannah & Gavin Bradley. One sister Frances Gerczak, several nieces, nephews, cousins, 6 step grandchildren and 14 step great-grandchildren. Sophie was pre-deceased by 5 sisters Mary Wydra, Veronica Grippe, Anna Pavolski, Stella Tomosivitch, Victoria Jaje, and one brother Jacob Kozala. The family wants to extend its deepest appreciation and special thanks to our Aunt Frances for all the time, special care and kindness she has given during our mothers illness. Sophie’s family would also like to thank the staff at Valley View and Hospice for the wonderful care given to their mother. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 26, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home 690 Co. Rt. 1 Pine Island, NY 10969. Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM on Monday December 27, 2010 at St. Stanislaus Church Pine Island, NY. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery Pine Island, NY.
