Obituary of Sandra Lee Pierce

Sandra L. Pierce of New Hampton, NY entered into rest on April 13, 2011 with her family by her side. Born May 22, 1949 in Washington PA, she was 62 years old. She was the daughter of the late Sophie and Edward Kowalewski. Sandy was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Florida, NY.
Sandy was a long time member of the Local 17 Laborers Union, and continued to volunteer for the Union after her retirement. She was a past volunteer of the Orange County Farmer’s Museum of Montgomery, NY and Museum Village in Monroe, NY, as well as many other local organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Paul J. Pierce and her son, Kevin A. Pierce at home, her daughters Master Sergeant Paula L. Pierce of Eglin AFB, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Cheryl A. Pierce of Middletown, NY, and Joanne E. Pierce-King and husband, Steven of Middletown, NY. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kelly Pierce. Sandy was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren including Michael Bennett, Meagan Carson, Desiree Pierce, Destiny Pierce and Rasun King. Sandy is survived by her brother James Kowalewski and wife Stella of Fair Oaks, NY; sisters: Alice Krawcyk and husband Tom of Middletown, NY; Karen Morace and her husband David of Palm Coast, FL; Kathy White and daughter Shawna of Slate Hill, NY; Cynthia Kowalewski of Middletown, NY and her sister-in-law Cindy Kowalewski of Stone Ridge, NY. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Kowalewski. Sandy shared a close relationship with her in-laws, Al and Teresa Pierce, Frank and Patty Pierce, Rose and Bob Hedlund and Arlene Scott.
Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was an amazing aunt to many nieces and nephews with whom she shared a very close relationship. She enjoyed creating special moments for each of the children in her life, such as tea parties, ice cream socials and was a secret pal to many. Sandy doted over her four parrots, teaching them to speak and do tricks. She was a lover of life who took pleasure in traveling with her husband. She loved flowers and sharing their beauty with others. Sandy loved spending time with her family and friends. There was never a time she was not surrounded by many. She was very giving of herself to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be held on April 15 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route 1 Pine Island, NY. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 16 at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Church, 17 Pulaski Highway Pine Island, NY. Interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Florida, NY.
