William E. Nickels of Warwick, NY a 43 year resident of the area, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was 76. The son of the late Ewald and Marie Muller Nickels, he was born March 21, 1936 in Bronx, NY. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served as a radio operator on the USS Columbus, a member of American Legion Post 1443 Greenwood Lake, NY where he was a past Sgt. at Arms, a retired supervisor for Ciba Geigy, Suffern, NY, and a graduate of Nyack High School. Survivors include his wife Mary Zisa Nickels at home; daughter Bonnie Calak and husband Richard of Westtown, NY; son John Nickels and his wife Deirdre of Bloomingburg, NY; son Gary Nickels and wife Elizabeth of Clay, NY; sister Clara Brown of Santa Barbara, Ca.; 6 grandchildren Katherine Calak and her companion Rich Matera, Richard Casey Calak, Geoffrey Nickels, Lauren, Hannah, and David Nickels. Visitation will be held on Friday March 22, 2013 from 4-6 PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home 690 Co. Rt. 1 Pine Island, NY 10969. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 AM on Saturday March 23, 2013 at Orange County Veterans Cemetery 111 Craigville Rd. Goshen, NY 10924 . Burial will be in O.C. Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Memorial Processing Cntr., P.O. Box 7 East Syracuse, NY 13057.
