Warren J. Burgess Sr. of Vernon, NJ a retired Animal Control Officer for the Township of Vernon for 55 years, entered into rest on January 12, 2014 at St. Anthony Community Hospital, Warwick, NY. He was 86. The son of the late George R. Burgess & Zina Carr Burgess, he was born September 22, 1927 in Singac, NJ. He was a member of Little Falls Masonic Lodge# 263, Little Falls, NJ; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; peace officers association; he was the longtime standing constable of Vernon Township; he was also a former special police officer for the Township of Vernon. He was also a master well driller for the State of New Jersey License# 2. Survivors include his daughter, Marlene Ford & husband Donald Sr. of Westtown, NY; son, W. John Burgess Jr. & wife Judy of Westtown, NY; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister, Marion Tingley; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Susan Sisco Burgess, brother, Wilford Burgess and a sister, Jeanette Dirk. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route#1, Pine Island, NY 10969. Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Friday, January 17th at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Hardyston Cemetery, Hamburg, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vernon Animal Welfare League, PO Box 299, Vernon, NJ 07462.
