Obituary of Edward Paul Murphy

Edward Paul Murphy of Pine Island, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, February 08, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. He was 90. The son of the late John Murphy & Florence Weeks Murphy, he was born September 30, 1924 in Manhattan, NY and then grew up in the Bronx. He was a devoted member of St. Stanislaus Church where he served as an usher and a longtime member and current treasurer of St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society, Pine Island. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and then served in the Merchant Marines. Survivors include his daughter, Lorraine "Lori" Murphy-Wydra and son-in-law David of Oak Ridge, NJ; son, Edward G. Murphy & Jan Johnson of Peekskill, NY; daughter, Linda Maude Murphy of Pine Island; granddaughter, Jenna Murphy of Pasadena, CA and foster son, Randy Beach of Utica, NY; sister, Isabel Keating of Thornwood, NY and 9 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gladys Corbitt Murphy and brothers in law, Ray Keating and David Dunn and sisters in law, Lucy Dawson & Maude Dunn. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11th from 3-5 & 7-9PM at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 Co. Rt#1, Pine Island, NY 10969. Holy Name services will be held Wednesday 7:30PM at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held 10AM Thursday, February 12th at St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Pine Island. Memorial contributions may be made to Upstate Cerebral Palsy, c/o Randy Beach, 6340 Trenton Avenue, Utica, NY 13502.
