Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alice H. Weeden of Westtown, New York, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 celebrating 102 years of life with her daughter by her side. The daughter of Arthur James and Elizabeth Farber Horler, she was born on May 22, 1912 in Johnson, New York as a single daughter with four brothers. She was the matriarch in our family who held us close, believed in embracing life every day and above all, loved and cared for each of us as her own treasures. Her keen ability to remember birthdates, anniversaries and family events was simply amazing. Our family memories will forever be held close to our hearts as each of us continue to celebrate family traditions inspired by her. Alice and her husband Robert, celebrated 82 years of marriage prior to his passing on November 20, 2013. She recently reminded us that she and Bob met at a local baseball game and she knew she would never let him get away. Alice and Bob, both children of farming families, saved enough money during the Great Depression years to rent a 100-acre farm and by 1945, purchased their own 200 acre farm in Westtown. Together with their children, Robert and Clara, they continued farming until 1959 when they decided to move on with new life dreams and built a brand new home in 1965, each of them being honored to live there until their passing. Alice simply loved family, enjoyed being a homemaker, tending to gardening and her flowers and most of all caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren for many years. Alice is survived by her daughter Clara and son-in-law Stanley Toffel of Westtown, 5 grandchildren, Toni Weeden, Teresa Gurdineer (Rob), Dawn Murphy (Lee), Glenn Toffel, Cathy Ayers (David), 8 great grandchildren Michael Gurdineer (Melissa), Marion Spar (Andre), Matthew Gurdineer (Erin), Marcus Gurdineer (Emely), Jennifer Ball (Jason), Johnathan Murphy, Joshua Toffel and Danielle Toffel, 10 great-great grandchildren Colette, Blaze, Haylee, Olivia, Ayva, Zoey, Dylan, Charlotte, Aubrey and Madison. She was predeceased by her son, Robert M. Weeden, Jr., daughter-in-law Alice Davenport Weeden and brothers Bill, Clarence, John and Walter. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20th from 10a-12Noon at the T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route #1, Pine Island, NY 10969. Funeral Service will be held 12Noon on Friday, March 20th at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
