Obituary of Donald L. Bierstine

Donald L. Bierstine Sr., a lifelong resident of Pine Island, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. He was 73. The son of the late Benedict & Frances Lempka Bierstine, he was born June 21, 1941 in Goshen, NY. Dad worked as a second generation farmer alongside his brothers on the Bierstine Farm, before working as an equipment operator for Orange County. He was an avid deer hunter and a multi-state bow and gun hunter who "wrote the book on getting out there every day". He initiated the love of hunting and fishing in Don and Ron by taking them both on their first squirrel, rabbit and deer hunts. He was a loyal member of the NRA and enjoyed the Outdoor Channel, Fox News and was an ardent O'Reilly fan. He also was a diehard Mets and Notre Dame fan. Survivors include his son, Donald L. Bierstine Jr. & wife Bonnie of Milton, West Virginia; son, Ronald Bierstine of Albion, NY; 2 granddaughters, Carol-Ann Jedziniak & Colleen Bierstine; 2 brothers, Benedict Bierstine Jr. & Robert Bierstine; one sister, Nancy Devine; along with numerous nieces, nephews and former wife, Cindy Brennan. He was predeceased by his first wife of 19 years, Carol Ann Bierstine; 2 brothers, James Bierstine Sr. & Edward "Skip" Bierstine. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23rd from 10:00-11:45am at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Rt#1, Pine Island, NY 10969. Funeral mass will be held 12noon, Thursday, April 23rd at St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island, NY. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island.
