Hugh Scott Higgins, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Hinsdale, NH, was born December 5, 1936 in Teaneck, NJ, and passed away on April 24, 2015. He attended the Englewood School, and the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. Upon graduation he sailed as an engineer for Cities Service aboard super-tankers rotating between 2nd and 3rd engineer. His varied career took him along many paths. He was employed as a sales engineer for Johnson Control, Technical Director for the National Oil Fuel Institute (NOFI), vice-president of Ford Products and President of Kelscot Ltd., a petroleum distributorship from 1972 until his retirement in 1998. He was named Man of the Month in May 1967 for his dedication and execution of endless responsibilities related to the fuel oil industry. He was also recognized at the 1966 and 1967 Oil Heating Engineering Conferences for his contributions of time, knowledge and talent in the fuel oil industry. He married Patricia Brunswick, September 1, 1962 who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Kelly, two granddaughters, Abigail & Gabrielle, son Scott, grandson Asher, and brothers, William & Andrew Higgins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
