Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Hopper

Mary Elizabeth Hopper of Florida, NY entered into rest on Thursday July 15, 2021, she was 77.

A beautiful person inside & out, she had an amazing heart & cared deeply for others. She was tough at times but loved with all her heart and would do her best to go above & beyond for others. Mary was a huge animal lover and made sure any stray or injured animal that crossed her path was taken care of & given a good home, sometimes it was her home. She was also the life of the party. Her smile and humor would light up the room and made people feel loved & welcome. Mary was the heart of the family who made others feel safe, secure and loved.

She was a school nurse for many years for junior high & elementary school children. She truly put her heart & soul into helping those children whether it was a scraped knee or buying winter clothes for children whose parents couldn’t afford them. That’s who she was, someone who cared and loved others, it was just her nature. 

She is survived by her husband James Hopper Sr.; son James Hopper Jr. and his wife Blanca and their sons Landon, Jayden, and Noah; Daughter Jamie Hopper; son Gary Smay and his wife Kelly and their sons Caiden and Keegan; nephew Joe Barrett; and niece Karen Graviano.

Mary’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Maureen Dyer who cared for Mary.

Visitation will be on Tuesday July 20, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 at T.S. Purta Funeral Home 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida, NY 10921
