Obituary of Josephine V. Quinn
Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our mother, Josephine (Joyce...Jo) Vincent Quinn nee Egan took her final journey on July 10, 2015 and has joined the love of her life Donald Quinn in heaven. Born to Michael and Margaret Egan on 13 May 1925 in Brisbane, Queensland Australia, Joyce leaves behind 3 sisters, Evelyn Hall, Audrey Hennelley, Maurine Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother Thomas predeceased her.
Josephine was the mother of 10 children: Rod (Sharon), Gregg, Donna, Brad (John), Dol Seck (Tom), Tammy, Bernard (Javier), Deanna and Dreslyn de Jong (Jonny). Her daughter, Dianne Conese Quinn predeceased her. Grandchildren: Shannon Quinn, Colleen Quinn Ryan (Keith: Miss Kate and Master Lucas Ryan; Summer Quinn (Erik: Kaitlin Keethe); Darcy Quinn (Al Griffin: Tyson, Salem, Hiker Griffin); Jennifer (Jason: Jason Boniface); Christopher Conese; Jacquelyn Conese; Nicole Cesari Baldini (Andrea); Michelle (Ed Reiser); Cory deJong; Robby Seck; and Bernardo and Emily Pinero. She was also close to Kathleen Quinn, mother of Shannon and Colleen.
She grew up on the family farm in Yandina Creek, Queensland and received training in teaching and home nursing. During WWII she met her future husband, T/Sgt Donald Quinn, U.S. Army. They married in August, 1944. After the war she traveled to America from Australia by ship with 800 other war brides and their children. The family grew in number and in subsequent years lived on Long Island, Parkchester in the Bronx, Waterford in upstate New York and finally to Central Valley, NY.
Mom met life's many challenges with strong religious beliefs, a resolute spirit, hard work and an unflinching devotion to her husband and children. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say she lived a life in full, having traveled the world with her husband of 63 years, given her time to many schools and nonprofit organizations all while shepherding her flock of children and grandchildren. In all, a remarkable women.
The Quinn family would especially like to thank the de Jong family for all of their love and caring of Mom; Branklyn Moto, Moms caregiver; Kaplan Family Hospice and the doctors and nurses at St. Anthony's Hospital in Warwick for the years of professional and undivided care.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent in Josephine Quinn's name to Kaplan Family Hospice, C/O Hospice of Orange and Sullvian Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
